Safari Styles
Comfortable lodges, a private 4x4 and guide, and the classic northern-circuit route.
The Shape of the Trip
The most popular way to do a first safari. Permanent lodges and tented camps with proper beds and en-suite bathrooms, a private Land Cruiser with a pop-up roof, and the well-established route through Tarangire, the Serengeti and the Ngorongoro Crater.
First-time safari-goers, couples and families who want comfort and a pool at the end of a dusty day, and anyone who would rather have a solid roof and a restaurant than canvas.
Established lodges and semi-permanent tented camps — buffet or plated meals, a bar and usually a pool, rooms with electricity and hot water. Comfortable without being extravagant.
Driving between the northern parks is part of the experience but can mean three to six hours on some days. A typical trip is six to eight days, and runs well year-round — your guide adjusts the route to where the wildlife is.
