Travel Insurance

Please read this before you book. Comprehensive travel insurance is a condition of travelling with us. Arrange it as soon as you confirm your trip so that cancellation cover starts straight away.

What your policy must cover

• Emergency medical treatment and hospital care overseas
• Emergency medical evacuation and repatriation — essential, because evacuation from a remote park or from Kilimanjaro is by air and very expensive
• Trip cancellation and curtailment
• Baggage, personal effects and travel documents
• Personal liability

Kilimanjaro trekkers

Check that your policy covers trekking up to the maximum altitude of your route — up to 5,895 m on a summit climb. Many standard policies stop at 4,000–4,500 m and need a high-altitude or mountaineering add-on. The policy should also cover helicopter rescue.

Zanzibar

Zanzibar requires every inbound visitor to hold a specific inbound travel-insurance policy bought through the official Zanzibar Insurance Corporation portal before or on arrival. This is a local entry requirement and does not replace your own comprehensive policy — you need both. Check the current fee and rules on the official portal.

Before you travel

Carry your policy number and the insurer's 24-hour emergency assistance number, and leave a copy with someone at home.
