Ngorongoro Crater Lodge perches on the south-western rim with the caldera falling away below it. The design is famously over-the-top — banana-leaf ceilings and hand-crafted panelling meet chandeliers, roll-top baths and butler service — split across three intimate "camps" of a dozen or so suites each.
The reason to stay, beyond the style, is the rim location: you're a short drive from the descent road, so you can be on the crater floor early before the day visitors arrive from Karatu.
