Paddling the Momella Lakes in Arusha National Park or the Rufiji in Nyerere — a quiet, low-level way to watch hippo, buffalo and waterbirds.
Getting onto the water gives you a completely different safari. In Arusha National Park you can take a guided canoe on the Momella Lakes, drifting among waterbuck and buffalo on the shore and flamingos on the water, with Mount Meru behind you — one of the few canoeing options in Tanzania's parks. In Nyerere National Park, boat and canoe trips explore the channels and lakes of the Rufiji, close to hippo pods, crocodiles and exceptional birdlife.
Both are calm-water activities suitable for beginners, run by park-licensed guides.
