Cultural Visits

Northern Tanzania is home to a striking range of cultures, and a well-run visit — one where the community sets the terms and receives the money directly — adds a lot to a safari. Options include a morning with a Maasai family learning about cattle, medicine and the boma; a visit to a Datoga blacksmith; a dawn hunt with the Hadzabe, one of the last hunter-gatherer peoples in East Africa, near Lake Eyasi; and coffee tours and village walks with Chagga farmers on Kilimanjaro's slopes.

We work with community-run and community-partnered operators and are candid about which visits feel genuine and which have become too commercial.
