Ibanda-Kyerwa National Park

A small 200 km² park in the far north-west corner of Tanzania on the Kagera River, gazetted in 2019 — topi, eland, roan antelope and zebra in rolling savanna near the Rwanda and Uganda borders.

Ibanda-Kyerwa became a national park in 2019, upgraded from a game reserve first set aside in 1974. It covers about 200 square kilometres in Kyerwa District, Kagera Region, in the extreme north-western corner of the country where Tanzania, Rwanda and Uganda meet, and is bounded by the Kagera River.

The rolling savanna and riverine habitat support topi, eland, roan antelope, zebra, impala and hippo, with elephant and buffalo moving through, and the river and wetlands are good for birds. It is one of the least-developed parks in the system and sees very few visitors, but its position makes it a possible add-on for travellers crossing between Tanzania and Rwanda or Uganda.
