Also known as the Kikuletwa Hot Springs, Chemka is a natural oasis of startlingly clear, warm turquoise water fed by underground springs, tucked into a grove of large fig trees whose roots trail into the pool. The water stays a comfortable temperature year-round and is calm and shallow enough for casual swimming, with a rope swing for the more adventurous.
Because it sits roughly midway between Arusha and Moshi, Chemka works well as a relaxed half-day — a chance to swim and unwind — either side of a Kilimanjaro trek or as a standalone day out. The appeal here is simply the water and the setting.
Pick-up from Arusha or Moshi and drive to the springs (roughly 1–1.5 hours). Time to swim and relax under the fig trees, with a picnic lunch. Return in the afternoon.
