After-dark drives with a spotlight to find the nocturnal animals — genets, civets, bushbabies, aardvark and hunting big cats — that the day never shows.
Most of the bush's smaller predators and a good deal of the drama only come out after dark. A night drive uses a red-filtered spotlight (which doesn't dazzle the animals) to pick out eyeshine and follow what's moving: white-tailed mongoose, genet, civet, springhare, the occasional aardvark or pangolin, and lions, leopards and hyena that hunt through the night.
Night drives aren't permitted inside most national parks, so they run in private concessions bordering the Serengeti, in Nyerere and Ruaha, and in some conservancy areas. If a night drive matters to you, we'll build the itinerary around a camp that can offer one.
