4-Day Nyerere (Selous) Fly-in Safari

4 days Fly-in; shared or private game activities

Nyerere National Park was carved out of the northern Selous in 2019 and, at nearly 31,000 square kilometres, is the biggest park in the country. It is reached by a short scheduled flight from Dar es Salaam or Zanzibar rather than a long drive, which is part of why it feels so wild — visitor numbers are a fraction of the northern circuit's.

What sets Nyerere apart is how you explore it. The Rufiji, Tanzania's largest river, spreads into a maze of channels and lakes that support big populations of hippo and crocodile and one of Africa's most important strongholds for the endangered African wild dog. Boat safaris along the Rufiji, walking safaris on foot with an armed ranger, and game drives to the lakes are all standard here. Three nights gives you time for all three.

Scheduled morning flight from Dar es Salaam or Zanzibar (under an hour). Transfer to camp, lunch, and an afternoon game drive toward the Rufiji lakes.

A final short activity, then transfer to the airstrip for the flight back to Dar es Salaam or a connection to Zanzibar.
