Jozani Forest

Jozani Chwaka Bay National Park protects the largest remaining area of natural forest on Zanzibar, in the centre of the island. It is the only place in the world to see the Zanzibar red colobus, an endangered monkey found nowhere else — troops are habituated to visitors and easy to watch at close range on a short guided walk.

The same visit usually includes a raised boardwalk through a tidal mangrove forest and, for those with time, the Chwaka Bay side of the park. It's an easy half-day from Stone Town or the east-coast beaches, and a good change of pace from the sand.
